Newspaper Print Collection: Illustrations from nineteenth century newspapers including The Illustrated London News, Harpers Weekly and The Graphic. Before the use of photography, newspaper editors dispatched noted artists to all parts of the globe to make drawings relating to the leading events of the time. The images in this collection depict events in Ireland and in particular in the West of Ireland e.g. Famine, Land War.

The Irish Tourist Association (ITA) Topographical and General Survey was compiled in the early 1940s on a parish basis within each county, presumably in an effort to gather information to promote Irish tourism post World War II. Surveyors were appointed and information was gathered by visits to the parish and the filling in of forms.

 

The Wynne Collection - Approximately 2000 photographs taken by Thomas Wynne, Castlebar and his descendants dating from 1870. Subjects include West of Ireland landscapes, architecture, streetscapes, studio portraits, historical events, etc. The collection was donated to Mayo County Library by the Wynne family.
