About Us:

The Archive of the National Museum of Ireland (NMIA) is designated as a place of deposit under the National Archives Act, 1986 and is responsible for preserving and providing access to its official historical papers and relevant collections of private archives acquired. The Archive also plays a role in the records management of National Museum of Ireland. The NMIA is a component part of the Registration Department of National Museum and since May 2008 has been staffed by a professional Archivist. The Archivist is responsible for the management of archive collections located on National Museum's four sites: Collins Barracks, Kildare Street, Merrion Row and Turlough Park. The Archive Collection consists primarily of the administrative records of National Museum from 1877 to the present day. These documents contain acquisition details for the Museum's artifacts, correspondence with donors and lenders, policies and procedures relating to the development of National Museum, details of exhibitions and documents relating to the move to the Collins Barracks site.
