RDS Archives

The RDS Archives date back to the foundation of the Society in 1731. The archives contain a wide ranging collection of printed, manuscript and photographic material that reflects the Society's foundation areas of science, art, industry and agriculture.

RDS Archives Collections:
The RDS Archives date back to the foundation of the Society in 1731. The archives contain a wide ranging collection of printed, manuscript and photographic material that reflects the Society's foundation areas of science, art, industry and agriculture.

 

The collections include:

  • Material relating to the foundation and history of the National Botanic Gardens, National Museum and National Library of Ireland.
  • Material relating to the Dublin Drawing Schools (1746-1877)
  • Dublin Horse Show Archive. Catalogues, photographs and documents relating to the Dublin Horse Show from 1864 to the present.
  • Agricultural material including the minutes of the Royal Agricultural Society of Ireland (1841-1880)
  • RDS Spring Show Archive. Catalogues, photographs and documents relating to the RDS Spring Show (1831-1992)
  • Material related to science and scientific institutions in Ireland including:
  • a. Correspondence of George Francis Fitzgerald (1851-1901)
  • b. Material relating to the Irish Radium Institute (1903-1947)
