Representative Church Body Library

The archives of the Church of Ireland: records of 1030 parishes, chapels of ease and chaplaincies, 17-21st cent; 20 dioceses, 13-20th cent; 20 cathedrals, 14-20th cent; the central administrative records of the Church - General Convention, General Synod and the Representative Church Body, from 1869-.

 

Opening hours and access policy:

Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.00pm; late opening on selected Fridays until 7.30pm (see Library’s website). No appointment is necessary but advance notice is appreciated.

 

Facilities: 

Photocopying and digital photography are at the discretion of the Librarian and Archivist. Microfilming and professional photography can be arranged.

Raymond Refaussé, Church of Ireland records (2nd ed., Dublin, 2006); Raymond Refaussé & Mary Clark, A catalogue of the maps of the estates of the archbishops of Dublin, 1654-1850 (Dublin, 2000). Summary lists and some detailed lists of collections are available on the Library’s website.

 

Collections:
The archives of the Church of Ireland: records of 1030 parishes, chapels of ease and chaplaincies, 17-21st cent; 20 dioceses, 13-20th cent; 20 cathedrals, 14-20th cent; the central administrative records of the Church -  General Convention, General Synod and the Representative Church Body, from 1869-. Some 7,500 architectural drawings, mainly of parish churches and cathedrals but also of some glebe houses, 19-20th cent. Photographic archive, mainly of church buildings but also of clergy, laity and church plate, late 19th cent. Databases of church plate, episcopal portraits and stained glass windows. Irish Huguenot Archive
                                                                                       

The Library has been the home of the Irish Huguenot Archive since its establishment in 1993 by the Irish Section of the Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland. The collection consists of the publications of the Huguenot Society together with a miscellaneous body of printed and manuscript material relating to the Huguenot presence in Ireland. Reference collections:
The Library holds a large collection of published parish, diocesan, and cathedral histories and related ephemera which complement the archival and manuscript collections, and compere sets of the Irish Ecclesiastical/Church of Ireland Gazette from 1856 and the Irish Ecclesiastical/Church of Ireland Directory from 1862.
