Dublin City Library & Archives are launching a biography of Laurence O'Neill, Lord Mayor of Dublin 1917 - 1924 in the Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2 at 5.30 pm on Monday the 09 Dec 2013. O'Neill was a key figure in the fight to prevent Conscription from being extended to Ireland. He was also instrumental in securing political prisoner status for Irish freedom-fighters imprisoned after 1916; and he facilitated the holding of the First and Second Dáils in the Mansion House Round Room.
PRONI will be hosting a summer programme of events to coincide with the World Police and Fire Games in August 2013. This will include a Family and Local History Fair on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of August and the return of the Ground Zero 360 Exhibition which will run from 22nd July – 23rd August. Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Sean McCann, launched the Military Archives website www.militaryarchives.ie on Monday 12 December, 2011 at Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines. Military Archives is the official place of deposit for the archival records of the Defence Forces, Department of Defence and the Army Pensions Board.

On foot of cutbacks in core grants and the sustained downturn in its traditional private-sector support base – architecture and construction – the Irish Architectural Archive has been experiencing very serious financial difficulties since mid-2012. Having ended last year with a €30,000 deficit, and facing the prospect of a cumulative deficit of over €100,000 by the end of 2013, the board has been forced to close the Archive for July and August 2013 as a cost saving measure to avoid insolvency, making all staff temporarily redundant.
A one day workshop is being organised by the Instuite of Conservator-Restores Ireland (ICRI) on behalf of The Council of National Cultural Institutions (CNCI), with the generous support of The Chester Beatty Library. It is aimed at those working within the museum, archive and heritage sector who are in the process of writing their Disaster Plan, however participants might also find it useful additional training when reviewing their existing Disaster Plan.
Thanks to the generous support of the CNCI, there is no charge to attend this workshop; however numbers are limited, so early registration is essential.
